Who was Annie?
Annie Nobles Carr was the great grandmother of Chef B Carr. Born in 1911, Annie was the matriarch of a great family and a pillar of her community. She was most known for her massive Sunday dinners. On Saturday she would start the baking and even cook some dishes overnight. So on Sunday, after the church service, she could welcome a crowd into her home and feed them. The crowd included the many generations of her own family: her children, grand children and great grand children, including Chef B Carr. She took pride of taking care of her family.Others were welcome too. The pastor would sometimes honor them with his presence. Church members and neighbors who wanted to be part of the scene also came. Annie never met a stranger because everyone was welcome. Of course as a child, this made a great impression on Chef B Carr. She was one woman welcoming and feeding so many, Chef B Carr’s aunts and uncles and so many cousins. Annie died in 1996, when Chef B Carr was still in elementary school. He never forgot her accomplishments, how she created a community with her cooking.
